The Ski & Mountain Center: your trusted ski equipment provider
A new store specialising in the sale and rental of ski and mountain equipment, Ski & Mountain Rental Center, will be opened in Pas de la Casa to mark the start of the Andorran skiing season. That’s why we’ve decided to share a few tips below on how to choose the best skis for you.

How to choose the best skis for you
Many questions may arise when buying or renting skis, but one of the most important factors to consider is the type of skiing that you will be doing. The most common varieties are:
● Piste: for carving enthusiasts who ski for fun, always staying within the boundaries of marked pistes with groomed snow.
● All mountain: for those who dare to carve not only on-piste, but also off-piste on ungroomed terrain with variable snow conditions.
● Freestyle: for those who perform tricks and manoeuvres in the snowpark and beyond, looking for maximum manoeuvrability on the snow and in the air.
● Freeride: for those who avoid the pistes altogether and prefer wild terrain, looking for virgin snow and steep slopes.
There are also several other factors to take into account, in order to ensure that you buy or rent skis best suited to your personal characteristics. One of the main aspects is length, determined by the following factors, in this order: weight, physical ability, height and skiing style.
Beginner or intermediate skiers should choose a shorter ski, while more experienced or advanced skiers may opt for a longer and bigger ski.
Recommended lengths
PISTE | ALL MOUNTAIN | FREERIDE | |
Beginner | Your height – 10 cm | Your height – 10 cm | Your height – 5 cm |
Intermediate | Your height – 7 cm | Your height – 5 cm | Your height |
Advanced | Your height – 5 cm | Your height | Your height |
Expert | Your height | Your height + 5 cm | Your height + 5 cm
|
● Indicate your height. For example, 175 cm.
● Determine your level: beginner, intermediate, advanced or expert.
● Choose the type of skiing that you will be doing: piste, all mountain, freestyle or freeride.
● Work out your required ski length:
175 + advanced (piste) = 175 + [-5,0] = [170, 175] cm
